We were in the water constantly! (And it was by
choice! Unlike the rainy
summer of 2003.)Not only did we have record turnout for the Polar
Bear Swims in the morning (with all of the new scouts attending!), but we
swam and canoed in one way or another pretty much every day.
In addition to going over to Windy Beach, we made a couple separate trips
out to Nuda Budda... the smallest of the islands on the lake. |

I don't know why, but the picture on the left just
cracks me up. I think it's because I remember a moment just like it
a little earlier in the day, when a bunch of the scouts were sitting down
in the bushes, grazing on the many blueberries that could be found on the
island. All you'd see were their heads and bodies sticking up our of
the brush, concentrating as they foraged, and it reminded me of a scene
from "Gorillas in the Mist."

And lest anybody be overly worried, we were tipping the canoes over on
purpose. Not only is it a lot of fun(!), but it was an opportunity to
help the guys review and understand their canoe skills as they had to work
to get them right side up and useable again. We always came back with
the same number of scouts as we left with, which is generally a good thing.
