COPE stands for "Challenging Outdoor
Personal Experience"
We divided up into two groups and went through a few hours
of different team building exercises. In addition to just being fun and
goofy, there was an underlying purpose.
The first was obvious... we needed more time to acclimate
to the altitude.
More importantly, however, we all needed to work as a
team. If we were going to be out in the wild relying on one another
for safety (and perhaps survival), we needed to be able to communicate and
trust each other.
There were all sorts of puzzles and challenges for
the team or the individual. a partial list would be...
Falling backwards and trusting your partner to
catch you.
Getting a tire up over a pole with limited
resources.
Moving a hula-hoop around the circle with various
obstacles.
Re--arranging everybody on a balance beam.
Solving a puzzle to get everyone over an area on
logs.
